On January 16th, the 2026 Nuclear Fusion Energy Technology and Industry Conference opened at the Fusion Reactor Park in Hefei, Anhui Province. Hefei University of Technology actively responded to the country's future industrial deployment, such as cultivating nuclear fusion, and actively linked to the country's future industrial strategy. The College of Fusion Science and Engineering, co founded with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, the Energy Research Institute of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, and Fusion New Energy (Anhui) Co., Ltd., was inaugurated at the meeting. Yu Xiangcheng, Secretary of the School Party Committee, Wang Meng, President, and Hong Richang, Standing Committee Member and Vice President of the School Party Committee, attended the conference.
The establishment of the School of Fusion Science and Engineering marks a crucial step for the school to fully leverage its disciplinary advantages and deepen its cultivation in the field of nuclear fusion. It will inject new strong momentum into the school's disciplinary construction and technological innovation. The college will focus on core research directions such as controllable nuclear fusion engineering and fusion energy system integration, with a focus on deepening the integration of industry, academia, research and application, and striving to create an innovative platform for "science and education integration and industry education collaboration".
